Govt open to suggestions for enhancing MACC leadership appointments

PUTRAJAYA: The government is open to suggestions on improving the appointment process for the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner, says Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

“The government is open to various views to improve the law or the process in bringing reforms to important institutions for the country,” said Fahmi during his weekly briefing at the Communications Ministry on Wednesday (April 9) following the Cabinet meeting.

When asked if the Cabinet had discussed extending Tan Sri Azam Baki's tenure as MACC Chief Commissioner, Fahmi said, “It wasn’t discussed.”

Last Friday (April 4), Bloomberg reported, citing sources, that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was allegedly poised to grant Azam a six-month extension in heading MACC.

The tenure of Azam, 62, was set to expire in May this year.
