Mechanic slapped with more firearm possession charges


SIK: A mechanic pleaded not guilty after he was once again charged in the Sessions Court here with three counts involving the possession of firearms.

Mohd Shahifuldin Mohd Shahiran, 46, entered the plea before judge Rohaida Ishak yesterday.

On the first count, he was charged with possessing a US-made Remington Model 1100 rifle without a permit at a house in Kampung Luar Siong at about 6pm on May 6.

According to a Bernama report, the charge was framed under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, which carries a maximum sentence of 14 years’ imprisonment and at least six strokes of the cane, upon conviction.

He was also charged under Section 8(a) of the same law with possessing 156 rounds of live ammunition without a valid permit at the same location, date and time.

The offence carries a maximum jail term of seven years, a fine not exceeding RM10,000 or both, upon conviction.

For the third count, Mohd Shahifuldin was charged with possessing an imitation Glock 19 Gen 4 pistol and one bullet cartridge without lawful reason at the same place, time and date.

The charge under Section 36 of the Arms Act 1960 carries a maximum one-year jail term, a fine of up to RM5,000 or both, upon conviction.

The court denied bail and fixed July 12 for mention.

On May 13, Mohd Shahifuldin was brought to the Sessions Court and Magistrate’s Court in Baling for five charges related to the possession of firearms, to which he also pleaded not guilty.
