MACC remands company director, married couple over alleged false claims

KUALA LUMPUR: Three individuals, including a married couple, have been remanded by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over allegations of submitting documents with false particulars involving about RM53,000 in health treatment claims to a government department.

A seven-day remand order until next Tuesday (May 26) was issued by magistrate A. Hafiizh Abu Bakar against the husband and wife, both in their 40s, after an application by the MACC at the Ipoh Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Another suspect, a company director in his 50s, was remanded for five days until Sunday.

Sources said the three suspects, comprising a company director, an executive officer and a company owner, were arrested between 4.50pm and 9.30pm on Tuesday when they turned up to give their statements at the Perak MACC office.

Initial investigations found that the suspects are believed to have conspired to commit the offence between 2024 and 2025.

“The suspects are believed to have submitted documents containing false particulars to a government agency to claim expenses for physical rehabilitation treatment, although the treatment was never carried out,” a source said.

When contacted, Perak MACC director Azizul Ahmad Sarkawi confirmed the arrests and said the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
