Two men escape unhurt from Johor Baru shop fire

JOHOR BARU: Two men escaped unhurt from the second floor of a prayer paraphernalia shop here when it went up in flames.

Larkin Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Abdul Wahab Nasir said the incident on Jalan Keris, Taman Seri Tebrau, was reported at 1.04am on Sunday (April 6).

"The building was ablaze when we arrived at the scene several minutes later. Our firefighters immediately rescued two victims who were on the second storey of the shop lot by assisting them down a ladder from a window," he said in a statement.

He added that the two victims did not suffer any injuries.

"The fire was contained in about 25 minutes and thoroughly put out by 5.45am," he said, adding that an investigation is underway to determine the source of the fire.

Abdul Wahab added that the fire had damaged about 80% of the shop lot and the blaze also affected the unit next to it, leaving it about 20% damaged.
