KUALA LUMPUR: A series of vehicle breakdowns and accidents caused slow-moving traffic along the North-South Expressway (NSE), Kuala Lumpur–Karak Expressway (KLK) and East Coast Expressway Phase 1 (LPT1) on Friday evening, as post-Hari Raya traffic volume surged.
PLUS Malaysia Berhad, in a post via its X account (@PLUSTrafik), reported that a lorry broke down at KM222.9 southbound from Changkat Jering to Kuala Kangsar at 4.13pm. The left lane was blocked, though traffic was still under control at the time. Towing efforts were underway by 4.30pm, but traffic remained slow.
At 4.19pm, another incident was reported at KM50.3 northbound from Sedenak to Simpang Renggam, where an accident obstructed the emergency lane and contributed to sluggish traffic.
Earlier, at 4.05pm, a car broke down at KM260.4 southbound from Kuala Kangsar heading toward the Menora Tunnel. The left lane was blocked and traffic slowed significantly. The incident was later cleared by 4.54pm, although congestion persisted.
In the northern region, an accident at KM52.6 northbound from Pendang to Alor Setar (South) at 4.12pm also disrupted traffic as the left lane was blocked. PLUS confirmed the incident was fully resolved by 5.06pm and that traffic had returned to normal.
Meanwhile, ANIH Berhad, the concessionaire managing KL-Karak and LPT1 highways, also posted on its X account (@LPTTrafik) about heavy congestion due to increased traffic volume heading towards Kuala Lumpur.
As of 4.04pm, traffic on the LPT1 was severely congested from KM86.5 to the Karak Toll Plaza, and again from the toll plaza to KM76.0.
At 4.06pm, ANIH also reported that traffic along the KL-Karak Expressway was crawling from KM76 to the Bentong Toll Plaza. The congestion continued from the toll plaza to KM58.2, and from KM55.9 to KM50.9 near Lentang.
Both concessionaires advised motorists to drive cautiously, stay updated through official highway social media accounts, and expect delays along high-traffic stretches as the Hari Raya return journey continues.
