Driver attacked by panther while answering call of nature

SEREMBAN: A lorry driver’s routine of stopping to relieve himself by the roadside after a long drive turned into a heart-stopping brush with the wild – a panther suddenly jumped on him.

The man in his 50s was injured in the attack. A clip of the incident was captured by the dashcam of a passing motorist along the quiet stretch of Jalan Bukit Tangga-Seremban in Jelebu.

Negri Sembilan Wildlife Protection and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) director Faizal Izham Pikri confirmed receiving reports of the incident, including the footage, at 6.14pm on Thursday.

“The victim was attacked on the head by a panther, which emerged from the forest before fleeing back into the woods.

“The driver was quickly transported to Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar for treatment,” he said in a statement, Bernama reported.

Negri Sembilan Perhilitan has increased patrols in the area and visited the victim to offer support.

Faizal urged road users to remain vigilant when travelling through known wildlife corridors and to contact the authorities immediately if they encounter wild animals.

The 16-second video clip circulating on social media shows the black panther running back into the forest shortly after the attack.

The footage was recorded at 3.31pm.
