Deputy minister: Don’t spread fake news

PETALING JAYA: The public should not spread fake news or unverified information about the recent inferno in Putra Heights, as it could cause confusion in the community.

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said the authorities will take action against anyone who exploits the crisis in Putra Heights, adding that the Home Ministry is jointly monitoring the situation closely with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.

Shamsul Anuar said after visiting fire victims at the Putra Heights Mosque that 116 police officers are on duty there and the Home Ministry will increase the number based on the latest developments.

“The police are ensuring security, especially at the residential homes,” he said.

The ministry has also set up mobile counters to facilitate victims in getting a copy of their birth certificates or identity cards.

To date, 19 replacement identity cards and four birth certificates have been issued.
