MELAKA: Individuals attempting to use medical certificates (MCs) believed to have gone missing from a public clinic in Sungai Udang here could face stern action, warns Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem.
The Melaka health, human resources and unity committee chairman urged employers who suspect their employees of submitting such fraudulent documents to report the matter to the police.
"The clinic had lodged a police report last year regarding the missing MC book, which contained MCs with serial numbers ranging from AZ537001 to AZ537050.
"Employers have a responsibility to verify the authenticity of MCs with the health facility if they notice anything suspicious," he said when contacted on Thursday (April 3).
Ngwe said that employers encountering such fraudulent MCs should also take appropriate action against the employees involved.
He also refuted claims made by a TikTok user that the MC book had gone missing before the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holidays.
"This is not a recent case and the Melaka Health Department had taken action by lodging a police report in October last year," he said.
Ngwe said that the authorities will also continue to monitor the situation to determine whether the missing MCs have been misused.
In a separate development, Ngwe announced that his team is arranging skills training programmes for women from the Orang Asli community in the Machap Jaya constituency.
He said that housewives from the community will receive training in sewing and hairdressing, enabling them to generate supplementary income for their families.
"This initiative aims to empower the women in the community by providing them with opportunities to become self-reliant," he added.
