Putra Heights inferno: Women’s Ministry to get NRD help for victims

PETALING JAYA: The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry will request the National Registry Department (NRD) to provide replacement services for identification documents for fire victims.

Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad said she will ask JPN to assist fire victims as early as Thursday (April 3).

"Some victims, when evacuating, left without their identification cards (IC) and such.

So, we are requesting JPN to set up a counter here to facilitate those who need to replace their IC," said Noraini on Wednesday (April 2) at the Putra Heights Mosque after visiting fire victims sheltering there.

Noraini also said she met many victims and added that the Welfare Department (JKM) will distribute basic necessities to them.

"The National Welfare Foundation will also provide counselling to fire victims who are traumatised and will help with whatever is needed," added Noraini.

Noraini said her ministry would provide counselling through the One-Stop Social Support Centre (PSSS) to fire victims.

Noraini praised the Putra Heights Mosque, NGOs, government officers, and local resident communities for assisting fire victims.

"They were very prompt and they all came together to assist fire victims," added Noraini.

The Fire and Rescue Department said on Tuesday (April 1) that at least 190 homes, 148 cars, and 12 motorcycles were damaged by the morning inferno caused by a gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights.
