'Jalur Gemilang' badges compulsory on school uniforms from April 21, says Education Ministry

PETALING JAYA: In an effort to inculcate love and pride for the country as well as promote unity, discipline and responsibility, students in institutions under the Education Ministry must wear a national flag badge on their uniforms from April 21.

In a circular issued by the Education Ministry on Monday (March 24), Education director-general Datuk Azman Adnan said the guideline for wearing the national flag badge on student uniforms had been approved by Cabinet on Feb 14, 2025.

The circular added that it applies to all government schools, government-aided schools, matriculation colleges and teachers' training institutes.

"Other educational institutions are also encouraged to adopt the practice," Azman said.

According to the guideline, the national flag badge, measuring 5cm in length and 2.5cm wide, must be worn on the right side of the uniform parallel to their name tags. It must also be made of "top epoxy embossed plastic".

It added that students are not allowed to alter the shape, colour and position of the badge on their uniforms and must be replaced if faded or worn-out.

Besides formal school uniforms, the guideline also applies to sports attire, traditional attire, extra-curricular attire (uniformed bodies) and vocational college corporate shirts.
