Over 80% investigation completion rate in 2024, says IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: Despite a challenging year in 2024, the police maintained a completion rate of over 80% for criminal investigations, says Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain

Razarudin said in his speech at the 218th Police Day celebration at Pulapol Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday (March 25) that last year saw many high-profile cases that brought scrutiny on police handling.

"Last year was challenging for the whole force because the force's credibility was constantly questioned with many perceptions about investigations into several high-profile cases," he said.

The IGP highlighted their investigation into Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB) as one of the major cases that shook the nation.

"Throughout 2024, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) opened 126,842 investigation papers, with a case completion rate of over 84%,” said Razarudin.

He added that the Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) busted 245 drug syndicates and arrested 753 suspects, seizing over RM388mil.

"In the fight against cybercrime, the Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) solved online fraud cases involving losses of around RM1.57bil," he said.

The IGP also highlighted the successes of the Internal Security and Public Order Department, which solved 99,498 cases with seizures worth RM984mil.

On the upkeep and expansion of police facilities, the IGP said RM30mil had been allocated for facilities maintenance.

"In addition, 18 construction projects for police headquarters, stations, housing, and other facilities have been approved, worth an estimated RM2.3bil under the fifth Rolling Plan of the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK 12). This is the most approved projects compared to previous years," he said.

He added that the police and public should work together to ensure a force that operates with integrity.

"With a force that is over 134,000 strong, myself and the leadership hope the public will continue strengthening our service delivery and integrity via the Public Report Management System (Sispa),” said Razarudin.

"Through this system, the public can file any complaints involving police personnel.

This is the symbiotic relationship between the police and public in ensuring the prosperity of the country," he added.
