Over 600 inmates to be released for Aidilfitri celebrations under Madani Ihsan Programme

PETALING JAYA: Over 600 prisoners from across the country will be released under the Madani Ihsan Licensed Prisoner Release Programme this Aidilfitri to allow them to celebrate the holidays with their loved ones, says the Prisons Department.

The department said 601 inmates from 34 prison institutions nationwide have been chosen to participate in the programme after displaying good behaviour during their sentence and participating in rehabilitation programmes.

“This program aims to strengthen family bonds and provide a second chance to prisoners who have demonstrated positive change. It also supports the holistic rehabilitation and social reintegration of prisoners,” it said in a statement on Monday (March 24).

It added that the released inmates would be continuously monitored by the authorities to ensure they comply with the release conditions and do not repeat their past offences.

“We hope the public will openly accept those given a second chance and assist them in their adjustment and rehabilitation process within the community,” it added.
