Cross-border trade in the northern region to improve with strengthening of logistics capacity, says Loke

KANGAR: Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) and Inland Port Perlis Sdn Bhd (IPPSB), a subsidiary of Mutiara Perlis Sdn Bhd, have entered into a strategic agreement for the operation and maintenance of the Railway Park of the Perlis Inland Port (PIP) at the Integrated Business Centre, Chuping Valley Industrial Area.

The agreement marks a significant milestone in strengthening logistics capacity in the northern region and enhancing cross-border trade between Malaysia, Thailand and the Asean region.

Witnessed by Transport Minister Anthony Loke, the agreement was signed by KTMB group chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Rani Hisham Samsudin and IPPSB managing director and CEO Arif Rida Shabaruddin.

Loke said the signing of the agreement is a strategic step in ensuring the sustainability and growth of the logistics industry in northern Peninsular Malaysia.

"As the country's leading rail transport operator, KTMB, in collaboration with IPPSB, will ensure that PIP functions as an efficient and competitive logistics hub that meets the demands of customers," he said.

Developed on a 500-acre site, PIP serves as a key logistics hub for handling domestic and cross-border cargo in the region.

The inland port features comprehensive dry port facilities, state-of-the-art infrastructure and high cargo handling capacity.

Strategically located at the Malaysia-Thailand border, PIP facilitates seamless multimodal operations including cargo handling, loading and transfer between rail and various other transportation modes.
