Mat Sabu: Enough supply of eggs to meet local demand

PUTRAJAYA: There is an ample supply of eggs in the market, says the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry.

Its minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu (pic) said close cooperation between the ministry and local egg producers ensured that daily egg production remained stable and satisfactory.

The ministry would be closely monitoring the production and distribution chain from farm to consumer, he said.

“Enforcement measures are also being strengthened by forming strategic partnerships between other ministries and agencies to monitor the export of food supplies,” he said in a statement yesterday, Bernama reported.

He was addressing confusion following media reports about the sharp rise in egg prices in the United States and allegations of eggs being smuggled abroad.

Mohamad also reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring national food security through comprehensive strategic policies and action plans, including efforts to boost local production capacity and support for the agro-food industry.

“Therefore, the public is advised not to engage in baseless speculation and to always refer to verified information through the ministry’s official channels.

“The ministry will continue to monitor current developments and is ready to take immediate action if needed to ensure the stability of our national food supply,” he added.
