Flood victim numbers decrease in Johor

JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims in Johor has dropped to 10,630 as of noon on Saturday (March 22), down from 13,089 earlier in the morning.

The Johor Disaster Management Committee said the evacuees, from 3,049 families, are currently housed in 68 temporary relief centres (PPS) across six flood-affected districts.

"The number of victims has been gradually decreasing since 8am today. It dropped to 11,743 at 10am and further declined to 10,630 at noon," it said in a statement.

The number of operational PPS has also decreased as more victims are allowed to return home.

The six flood-affected districts are Johor Baru, Pontian, Kluang, Kulai, Batu Pahat, and Kota Tinggi.

Several roads remain closed due to floodwaters. In Kota Tinggi, Jalan Lukut Cina and Jalan Mawai Lama are still inaccessible due to strong currents. Meanwhile, Jalan Jabi-Bukit Tempurung in Segamat is also closed to all vehicles.

Additionally, three river monitoring stations have recorded water levels at dangerous levels, namely Sungai Lenik, Sungai Kahang, and Sungai Pulai.
