Firefighters free young boys in locked car at Merlimau bazaar

JASIN: A father discovers that his two young sons were locked inside his car after he went to buy Ramadan delicacies at a bazaar in Merlimau.

The Melaka Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer, Deputy Superintendent Mohd Hafidzatullah Rashid, said five personnel were dispatched to the scene at 3.45pm on Wednesday (March 19) to rescue the boys, aged four and six, who were fast asleep in the vehicle.

He said the 30-year-old father had left the car engine running while he went to the bazaar to buy food for breaking of fast.

"Wanting to ensure his boys were comfortable, he had also left the driver’s side window slightly open.

"However, when it began to drizzle, one of the boys rolled up the window, unknowingly trapping themselves inside," he said.

Mohd Hafidzatullah said when the father returned, he found the car doors locked with his sons still inside.

"The panicked dad made a distress call to us. When the firefighters arrived, they assessed the situation and rescued the two boys within ten minutes," he added.
