JOHOR BARU: A seven-year-old Singaporean boy was killed when he was flung out of a car after a lorry, driven by a man high on methamphetamine, rammed into it.
The lorry driver had no driving licence or vocational licence while the vehicle’s road tax had also expired, say police.
The 57-year-old driver was going from Masai towards the city when he lost control of the vehicle and hit the Singapore-registered car, which was travelling in the opposite direction towards Permas Jaya.
The driver, a Malaysian, tested positive for methamphetamine and has been arrested, said Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat.
The boy’s father, a 44-year-old Singaporean, was driving the car with three other passengers – his wife, another two-year-old child and their Indonesian helper.
All of them have been are being treated at Hospital Sultan Ismail.
ACP Raub said the accident occurred at around 10.30pm on Sunday night at KM2.4 along Jalan Pantai heading towards Permas Jaya here.
“At around 3am on Monday, police received information that the boy had been pronounced dead while being treated at a private hospital,” he added. ACP Raub said said anyone who witnessed the incident should contact the Johor Baru South police hotline number at 07-2182222.
