Two motorcyclists killed in Lahad Datu collision

KOTA KINABALU: Two men were killed after their motorcycles collided on Felda Sahabat 40 Road in Lahad Datu on Friday (Mar 15).

The 6.15pm accident resulted in the deaths of a 43-year-old Indonesian man and a 17-year-old Filipino teenager.

Lahad Datu deputy police chief Supt Jimmy Panyau said initial investigations revealed that the accident occurred when the teenager lost control of his motorcycle and collided with the other victim who was travelling in the opposite direction from Felda Sahabat 30 towards Kembara Sakti.

“As a result of the collision, both riders sustained severe head injuries and were confirmed dead at the scene,” he said in a statement on Saturday (Mar 16).

The bodies of both victims were transported to Lahad Datu Hospital for post-mortem examination.

“Blood samples from both victims have been taken and sent to the Chemistry Department in Kota Kinabalu for alcohol and drug testing.

“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he added.

Meanwhile, he urged anyone with information about the accident to contact Investigating Officer Insp Humaidi Harun at 098-881255 or visit the Lahad Datu District Police Headquarters (IPD).

“All motorists are advised to drive cautiously and responsibly to ensure their safety and that of other road users,” he said.
