Pensioner held in false claims probe

KOTA KINABALU: A pensioner has been arrested for suspicion of making false claims totalling RM60,000 when he was serving as an enforcement agency officer four years ago.

The 62-year-old man was arrested by graft investigators at the Keningau office of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at about 9.45am yesterday, according to sources.

The sources said that his arrest comes following investigations on the purportedly false claims totalling RM60,000 made by him between March 2020 and August 2021.

The claims were made on false documents that he submitted to an enforcement agency in Sabah, the sources added.

When contacted, Sabah MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrest and said that the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009. He said the suspect is expected to be charged at the Kota Kinabalu Special Corruption Court on Friday.
