Biker, 20, dies in crash involving car driven by foreigner in JB

JOHOR BARU: A 20-year-old motorcyclist was killed in an accident involving a car and a motorcycle at KM11.5 of the Johor Baru-Kota Tinggi road near Smart Pandan on Sunday (March 9).

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the incident occurred at 2.31am when a car driven by a 27-year-old foreign national was heading from Pasar Borong Pandan towards Taman Johor Jaya.

"As the car switched from the right lane to the left lane to make a left turn, it collided with a motorcycle that was travelling in the leftmost lane," he said in a statement.

The impact caused the motorcyclist to be thrown off and land near a roadside drain. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The foreign driver has been detained for further investigation. A background check revealed that he had no prior criminal or drug-related records, and tests confirmed he was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
