Tragic end to sahur outing for two cousins

JASIN: It was a tragic outing for two cousin brothers going for sahur (pre-dawn meal) when one of them lost his life in an accident in front of SK Datuk Haji Baginda, Merlimau, here.

The accident occurred at around 12.15am yesterday, said Jasin OCPD Supt Mohamad Rusli Mat, who identified the deceased as 18-year-old Ibnu Hakimi Abdul Rahman from Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan.

He died at the scene after being flung from the motorcycle due to the impact of the crash.

Supt Mohamad Rusli Mat said the 17-year-old pillion rider sustained injuries to his hands and legs.

“Initial investigations revealed that the accident happened when the victim, travelling from Umbai to Serkam, attempted to overtake a car along the stretch.

“A 31-year-old man riding a motorcycle from the opposite direction was turning right into Jalan Muhibbah,” he said.

Supt Mohamad Rusli said the deceased was unable to avoid the oncoming motorcycle, causing him to lose control and veer off to the right shoulder of the road before crashing into the pole.

“Both the victim’s cousin and the 31-year-old motorcyclist sustained injuries to their legs and hands, and were taken to Melaka Hospital for further treatment.”

A team from the Health Ministry confirmed that the victim died at the scene.
