SEREMBAN: The Seremban City Council (MBS) has removed the doors at six hardcore poor housing programme (PPRT) flats in Lobak near here after its tenants failed to pay rent for years.
The MBS took this step with tenants of the low-cost units owing back rent of between RM17,000 and RM34,000 each.
The monthly rental for each unit is RM150.
"MBS had tried many ways to get the tenants to pay up in the past. Despite this, many remained nonchalant.
"The operation on Feb 27 involved the six units with the highest amount of arrears," it said in a social media post on Monday (March 3).

MBS said no untoward incident was reported during the operation, with local councillors and police observing.
It said the tenancy agreements for the units expired on Jan 31, and the tenants were given notice to vacate the units by Feb 26.
The council said the decision to remove the doors in the six units was made to get the tenants to pay up.
"They will be allowed to live there for a while longer so that they can start paying, failing which they will have to move out," it said.
MBS said it would conduct more operations to see that PPR tenants settle their outstanding rent.
It also hoped that tenants owing rent in the Paroi PPR would also start paying.
In December, MBS removed the doors of several units at the Paroi PPR, where the tenants involved owed more than RM15,000 each.
