PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic) has responded to criticism from a Pakatan Harapan youth leader regarding his questioning of the Employees Provident Fund's (EPF) dealings with Malaysian Airport Holdings Berhad (MAHB) shares.
"I want to set the record straight regarding the inaccurate statement made by Ammar Atan," said the MCA president, referring to the PH Youth information chief.
In a statement on Saturday (March 1), Ammar Atan had demanded that Dr Wee retract his criticism of the EPF and apologise to the retirement fund, which posted a 6.3% dividend for 2024, the highest in years.
Ammar also alleged that Dr Wee claimed the EPF was in a critical state and might post a low dividend.
In response, Dr Wee stated: "A higher EPF dividend for 2024 does not erase the fact that losses from the 'sell low, buy back high' move involving MAHB shares did happen.
"In fact, the dividend could have been even higher if that had not occurred.
"At no point did I claim that EPF was in critical condition or that there would be a lower dividend for last year," said the Air Itam MP.
He demanded Ammar retract his false statement.
