G57 backs AG's review of protest prosecutions, demands action against defamation of Sabah TYT

KOTA KINABALU: Gerakan Kuasa Rakyat Malaysia (G57) has welcomed the decision by the Attorney General’s Department to review the prosecution of organisers involved in the Bangkit Sabahan and Gempur Rasuah rallies held at the Anjung Selera and Menara Kinabalu on new year's eve.

“The decision to reassess the prosecution is a step in the right direction, ensuring that justice is served fairly,” said G57 chairman Datuk Zulkarnain Mahdar(pic)  in a statement on Wednesday (Feb 26).

However, while supporting the review of the protest-related cases, G57 also called for legal action against individuals accused of defaming Sabah’s Tuan Yang DiPertua Negeri, Tun Musa Aman, during the rally.

Zulkarnain stressed that those who allegedly insulted, humiliated, and falsely accused Musa of corruption should not be left unpunished, naming activist Fahmi Reza and several Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) students among them.

“He (Musa) has never been convicted of corruption by any court in Malaysia. Labelling him a corrupt leader without legal proof is a malicious act aimed at tarnishing the dignity of Sabah’s royal institution,” he said.
