Contractor charged with using fake documents to secure tenders in Seremban

SEREMBAN: A 47-year-old contractor claimed trial at the Sessions Court here to six charges of using fake documents to secure tenders for maintenance and repair works at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium here.

Azizan Zainal Abidin pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to him before Judge Meor Sulaiman Ahmad Tarmizi.

The accused was charged with using fake documents belonging to different business entities to apply for two projects to carry out pipe repairs and maintenance works at the stadium.

For the first three charges, he had allegedly submitted three bids amounting to RM7,979, RM8,200 and RM8,500 to secure a contract.

The offences were allegedly committed in March 2021 at the Seremban City Council (MBS) office.

For the next three charges, he had also allegedly submitted similar bids for another contract. These offences were also committed at the MBS office in October the same year.

Azizan was charged under Section 471 of the Penal Code, punishable under Section 465 of the same legislation.

Offenders can be jailed up to two years or fined or both upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Fatin Nur Athirah Zainuddin then told the court that her team was offering the accused a bail of RM30,000 for all the charges pending mention.

Azizan, who was unrepresented, asked for a low amount as he had to provide for his parents, three wives and 10 children.

Judge Meor Sulaiman then set bail at RM15,000 with one surety and fixed March 19 for mention.
