Twelve people rescued after being trapped in Kulim hotel lift


KULIM: Twelve individuals - including three children and a baby girl - were rescued after being trapped in a hotel lift on Saturday.

Kulim Fire and Rescue Station Chief Assistant Fire Superintendent Hamizul Azwan Hamdan, said the other victims included two adult men and six adult women.

He said the fire department received an emergency call at 9.26pm and rushed to the scene shortly after.

"The victims included two adult men, six adult women, three children, and a baby girl," he said.

The operation was led by Senior Fire Officer II Mohd Shuib Abu Bakar, with eight members from the Kulim Fire and Rescue Station.

"Upon arrival, it was found that 12 victims were trapped in the lift on the first floor of the hotel building," he said.

"The operation involved extracting the victims through the ceiling and exiting through the lift door on the second floor," he added.

"However, all the victims were successfully rescued and no injuries were reported," he said, noting the operation was fully completed by 11.27pm.

He added that the operation was assisted by staff from the Health Ministry and the Royal Malaysia Police.
