KUCHING: Sarawak must be future-ready to embrace artificial intelligence (AI) and satellite technology, said state Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin.
He said Sarawak is now focusing on talent development in various sectors, such as space technology, communications and smart transport, all related to digitalisation.
“There’s a strong emphasis on smart traffic, smart transport, smart cities and smart visitor services.
“We’re even talking about smart vehicles, like smart garbage trucks and more,” he told Bernama here yesterday after the opening ceremony of the Borneo Innovation and Technology Conference (BIT25).
Speaking at the event, Lee said Sarawak’s digital transformation journey is not just about business, it is about creating a more connected, efficient and sustainable environment.
“In the transport sector, we are already making significant strides with initiatives such as hydrogen-powered buses, a green transportation initiative aligned with our push for renewable energy and the autonomous rapid transit (ART), which is set to revolutionise urban mobility and reduce congestion while enhancing connectivity.
“These developments are part of Sarawak’s commitment to low carbon and technology-driven economy, ensuring that our state is at the forefront of sustainable innovation.”
Lee added that BIT25 is a platform that helps businesses adopt digital solutions, speeding up Sarawak’s economic transformation and positioning us as a leader in the digital economy.
“One of the key challenges for businesses in digital transformation is ensuring that their workforce is future-ready.
“This initiative makes it easier for businesses to invest in their employees, equipping them with the right knowledge, skills and networks to drive growth,” he said.
