Safety measures at all train stations to be enhanced, says Loke

PETALING JAYA: Safety aspects at all train stations, especially facilities for persons with disabilities (OKU), will be reviewed and enhanced, says Anthony Loke.

The Transport Minister said this following a tragic incident where a blind man fell onto the train tracks and was hit by a train at the Titiwangsa Light Rail Transit (LRT) station earlier on Saturday (Feb 22).

"The Transport Ministry is working closely with all relevant parties, particularly Prasarana Malaysia Bhd, to conduct a thorough investigation," he said in a Facebook post.

Loke said Prasarana would implement critical safety measures to prevent such incidents from recurring.

Among measures mentioned were installing smart CCTV systems capable of detecting high-risk behaviour at train stations.

"In the long-term, Prasarana is planning to install platform screen doors (PSD) across all LRT lines as part of efforts to enhance passenger safety.

"Meanwhile, passengers requiring additional assistance, including OKU, are advised to approach Prasarana staff or any auxiliary police personnel at the station to ensure their needs are properly attended to," he said.

Loke said passenger safety and welfare remain a top priority and the government is committed to ensuring a safer, more inclusive and user-friendly public transport system for all Malaysians.
