Woman killed, husband hurt in Renggam road crash


KLUANG: A woman died on the spot after the car she was travelling in with her husband was involved in an accident with a purpose vehicle (MPV) on Saturday (July 11).

Renggam Fire and Rescue station chief Mohd Nizar Ma’mun said the incident happened in front of Masjid Al Falah Simpang Renggam, in Renggam near here.

“We received an emergency call in regard to the incident at 2.48pm, and our men arrived at the scene located 12km from the station at 3pm," he said in a statement.

Nizar said the 64-year-old woman identified as Zaiton Hashim was pronounced dead at the scene by the paramedic team from the Health Ministry, while her 68-year-old husband, Kamarulzaman Ibrahim, had injuries to his legs.

“Members of the public successfully extracted the trapped man from the car before the firefighters arrived," he said.

Nizar added the driver of the MPV was sent to the hospital by the public, before the arrival of the Fire and Rescue Operations Team, to pull the victim.

He said the victim’s body has been forwarded to the police for further action, adding no identification was received on the driver of the MPV.

Nizar said the operation led by senior officer I Juazman Miskon and five firefighters with a Fire Rapid Tender vehicle ended at 4.10pm.
