Driver killed, passenger seriously injured in Tuaran 4WD-lorry crash

KOTA KINABALU: A driver was killed and his passenger sustained serious injuries after their four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle collided with a lorry at Jalan Tuaran–Kota Belud, Kampung Bunga Tenghilan, on Friday evening (Feb 21).

The victim, identified as Masrie Hairin, 30, was trapped in the wrecked vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tuaran Fire and Rescue Department station chief Mohd Nor Amit said they received an emergency call about the accident at 5.55pm.

"Upon arrival, we found that the lorry driver was unhurt, while the 4WD driver was trapped inside the vehicle. Our team successfully extricated him," he said.

The male passenger in the 4WD sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Tuaran Hospital by ambulance for further treatment.

The deceased was handed over to the police for further action.

"After ensuring there were no further hazards at the scene, the operation was concluded at 6.31pm," he added.
