Dr Dzul: Malaysia receives 2,220 mpox vaccines through Asean Covid-19 Response Fund

PETALING JAYA: A total of 2,220 doses of the MVA-BN vaccine for mpox prevention have been received under the Asean Covid-19 Response Fund, benefiting 1,100 individuals at risk of infection, says the Health Minister.

Its minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad on his official Facebook page on Friday (Feb 21) said the vaccines, which arrived on February 20, will be administered to high-risk groups, including healthcare workers handling mpox cases and close contacts of confirmed cases.

“The vaccine will only be administered on medical expert evaluation and is not part of a general vaccination programme,” said Dzulkefly.

He added that the primary focus is to protect frontline healthcare personnel and individuals at a higher risk of contracting the virus.

“We express our gratitude to Asean for its role in securing the vaccines, which are expected to boost efforts in preventing the spread of mpox," he said.
