KUANTAN: The suspect in the murder of 37-year-old food vendor Norshamira Zainal has a criminal record related to gambling.

Pahang Police Chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said investigations have revealed that the 53-year-old man was investigated under the Open House Gambling Act 1953 and has no other criminal records.

"The investigation of this case is ongoing," he said when contacted by reporters on Monday (Feb 17).

Meanwhile, Kuantan District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu confirmed the suspect has six gambling-related cases in his criminal record and has never been punished or imprisoned.

The unemployed man was remanded for seven days starting last Saturday until February 21 after being captured in Kuala Terengganu.
