Fisherman found drowned in Perak waters

IPOH: A 50-year-old fisherman has been found drowned in Kuala Sangga waters near Taiping.

A Perak Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said a distress call was received at 12.10am on Friday (Feb 14).

He said the victim, identified as Aziz Bakar, had gone out to sea in his fibreglass boat at about 4.30pm on Thursday (Feb 13).

“He was reported missing after his friend found the boat adrift with no trace of the victim.

"Aziz was also reported to have suffered from low blood pressure and (fainting spells)," he said in a statement.

After receiving the distress call, the department carried out a search and rescue operation with a control centre set up at the Kuala Sepetang jetty nearby.

“A group of fishermen told our team that they spotted the victim’s body, and our personnel then went to the site by boat to retrieve it.

“The body was handed over to the police for further action,” the spokesman added.
