Suspect in comedian Along Cham’s sentencing scam pleads not guilty

PETALING JAYA: A suspect who allegedly offered to help reduce comedian Along Cham’s sentence following his arrest has pleaded not guilty.

In a statement on Thursday (Feb 13), Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the suspect, a 28-year-old woman, was charged at the Bangi Magistrate’s Court.

He added that the suspect had been granted bail of RM4,000.

Previously, the police received a report from Along Cham’s wife, Afreena Suhaimi, 33, regarding an alleged fraud case involving offers to alter the charge under which her husband was prosecuted.

The victim reportedly met the suspect in December last year to discuss her husband's legal troubles and was promised assistance in reducing the severity of the court charges.

Comm Hussein said a total of RM105,380 was paid into five different bank accounts linked to the scammer, but no such assistance was provided.
