I’ll explain in Parliament after Najib’s court cases end, says Anwar on royal addendum

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that, if allowed, he will explain the royal addendum related to Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s case in the august House after the latter’s court cases conclude.

The Prime Minister said he wants to set an example by honouring the court process.

“I have given my commitment if permitted after the court case I have promised here (in the Dewan Rakyat) that I will explain,” he said during the Prime Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday (Feb 13).

“But I cannot do it now because the case is in court. The Opposition doesn’t care if it is sub judice. They think they are above the law.

“I must set an example,” he added.

He said this after Opposition MPs raised whether the addendum issue is among the reasons for the eroding investors’ confidence in Malaysia.

On Feb 4, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul ruled that the issue of the addendum should not be raised during debates in Parliament.

Johari made his ruling after heated exchanges from both sides of the floor. Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin (PN-Larut) raised the issue during debates and accused the Prime Minister of treason for his silence.

On Feb 7, Najib objected to the gag order applied by the government in the latter's bid to stop public discourse on the former prime minister’s claim of an additional royal addendum order, which would purportedly allow him to be under house arrest.
