Youngsters sporting weapons on the pitch

VIDEOS showing youngsters in India’s Manipur state in India playing football carrying submachine guns and handguns have shocked netizens, Makkal Osai reported.

Activists from other communities have expressed dismay over such behaviour.

Manipur, which is located in northeastern India, was rocked by sectarian violence in 2023 which left hundreds dead.

Tens of thousands of people were displaced as well.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has been accused of not doing anything about the situation.

As the state returns to uneasy calm, two influencers shared videos of themselves playing football in a stadium with captions proclaiming their ethnic pride.

According to netizens, the videos were reminiscent of youths from both warring groups walking around with guns during the height of the unrest.

It was not clear if authorities intended to act against the influencers.
