FINANCIAL hardship and his participation in a reality programme have led singer Zaki Yamani to take his music career more seriously, Kosmo! reported.
The 20-year-old son of Malaysian pop star Datuk Jamal Abdillah said that following the Covid-19 pandemic, he ran a food outlet selling coffee, burgers, and sizzling dishes to support himself.
Zaki, whose full name is Ahmad Zaki Yamani Jamal Ubaidillah, said that the reality programme Famili Duo showed him that singing could provide an income with discipline and commitment.
“I actually aspired to become an engineer, but a lot has changed,” he said at the launch of his latest song, Akur.

The public health medicine specialist recalled returning about a decade ago to Long Palai in Ulu Baram, Sarawak, as part of an FDS medical mission.
Neilson said Sarawak’s vast and rugged terrain made helicopters among the fastest and most practical means of bringing healthcare to remote communities.
“A person should not receive a lower standard of healthcare simply because they live far from the capital.
“It is on this basis that FDS remains an important instrument in Sarawak’s medical ecosystem,” he said.
FDS provides services including acute and chronic disease treatment, childhood immunisation, maternal healthcare and health education.
