Police probe viral video of dog euthanasia

KLUANG: The police will be summoning individuals involved in the viral video allegedly showing Kluang Municipal Council (MPK) enforcement officers euthanising stray dogs to assist with investigations.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said the case is being investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code for criminal defamation and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for misuse of network facilities.

“We will be calling in those involved to record their statements and assist with our investigation. Updates will be provided once the probe is completed,” he said yesterday.

In an earlier statement, ACP Bahrin confirmed that the police had received a report from the MPK enforcement unit regarding the viral video.

The council has claimed that accusations contained in the video about its handling of stray dogs were false.

ACP Bahrin also said that the video, which began circulating widely on social media at 6.36pm last Friday, has sparked widespread debate among the public.

Members of the public with relevant information are encouraged to contact their nearest police station or the Kluang district police headquarters at 07-778 4222 or the hotline at 07-776 6822.
