TENOM: A total of RM3.9mil has been approved for 14 additional smallholder farm road projects in Tenom, Kemabong and Keningau, says Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad (pic).
The Plantation and Commodities Minister said the projects were important in addressing connectivity issues faced by smallholders in rural areas, particularly in transporting their agricultural produce.
She said improved road infrastructure would also support the economic activities of smallholders involved in oil palm, rubber and other crops, while helping to increase their income.
“These facilities are crucial, especially for the plantation and commodities sector in rural areas, as many smallholders cultivate oil palm, rubber and other crops.
“With assistance from the ministry, smallholders will be able to transport their produce more easily, which will help increase their income,” she told reporters after officiating the Pemimpin Bersama Warga Kampung Kemabong Lama programme yesterday, Bernama reported.
Noraini said the ministry had also approved RM300,000 to widen the concrete road connecting Kampung Kemabong Lama and Kampung Kemabong Baru to facilitate residents’ movement and the transportation of farm produce.
Apart from infrastructure development, the ministry and the Malaysian Palm Oil Board also contributed RM7,300 to SK Kemabong for the development of the School Digital Interaction Class as well as school uniforms for 50 needy pupils.
