Public advised against speculating on Setia Alam mall shooting

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman has advised the public not to speculate on the shooting incident that took place at a mall in Setia Alam, Selangor on Saturday (Feb 8).

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said any speculation would only worsen the situation.

"We understand the public are worried following the incident but we hope they can avoid speculating on the case," he said on Sunday (Feb 9).

The IGP said security at malls and public venues nationwide has been tightened.

"We have also instructed auxiliary police and security personnel to be more alert to any suspicious activity."

"We have also instructed police personnel in other states to remain vigilant," he added.

It was reported that Selangor police have identified the shooter in the mall incident.

The suspect, a local in his 30s, had 11 prior criminal and drug-related records.

During the incident, a foreign man who works as a cleaner was hurt after he was shot in the leg and buttock.

The situation at the mall was chaotic following the shooting incident on Saturday night.

However, the police have deemed the mall safe and allowed it to operate normally on Sunday.
