Anwar and Erdogan to discuss Gaza plans

IPOH: The reconstruction of Gaza will be a key issue on the agenda in the meeting between Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Turkyish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan who will be in Malaysia next week, it has been revealed.

The Prime Minister’s senior political secretary Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin said both leaders have been vocal in representing the Islamic world on various issues, including the oppression of Palestinians.

“This is a very crucial time, especially after the US President (Donald Trump) announced his plan to take over the Gaza Strip, which, in my opinion, is completely unreasonable.

“I believe that the meeting between the two prominent leaders and long-time friends will have a significant impact on the international community’s efforts to find a way to successfully rebuild Gaza,” he told reporters after representing the Prime Minister in launching the Rumah Ibu Scheme here yesterday, Bernama reported.

On Tuesday, Trump was reported to have said that the “United States will take over the Gaza Strip” shortly after proposing the permanent resettlement of Palestinians outside the enclave.

International media reported that Trump’s controversial proposal was met with widespread condemnation, with many terming it as “ethnic cleansing” and a “war crime”.
