MACC asked to speed up graft probe involving Sabah assemblymen

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Bung Mokhtar Radin (BN–Kinabatangan) has demanded an explanation on corruption allegations involving Sabah assemblymen.

He urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to update the public on the progress of the investigation, which began late last year.

He said the probe should be concluded swiftly as Sabahans face more pressing issues that need to be addressed.

"We urge the authorities to expedite this matter.

"If it is true that there were elements of bribery, charge those involved. If not, then let the Sabahans know," he said during the debate on the motion of thanks for the Royal Address in the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday (Feb 6).

He also clarified that Umno Sabah is not involved in any alleged negotiations.

"As the Umno Sabah chief, I want to make it clear that we have nothing to do with any negotiations," he stated.

A news portal had reported that the assemblymen implicated in recent graft scandals attempted to bribe the whistleblower.

Following this, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki announced that investigations were ordered into the latest allegation.

Last December, the MACC revealed that two separate investigations – one into a whistleblower and another into those implicated – were conducted regarding alleged corruption involving Sabah assemblyman.
