PENGERANG: A father and his eight-year-old son drowned while swimming at a beach in Kampung Punggai here Sunday (Aug 30).
The victims were identified as Mohammad Nizam Zainal, 33, and his son, Muhammad Zamri Mikhail, eight.
Punggai fire and rescue station operations commander Aldron Dey Judih Judeh said they received an emergency call about the incident at about 7.10pm on Sunday (Aug 30).
He said six firefighters, along with a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and a four-wheel-drive vehicle, were dispatched to the scene.
“Both victims had been brought ashore by members of the public before the operations team arrived.
“The team then performed emergency cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on both victims,” he said here on Monday (Aug 31).
Aldron said both victims were subsequently taken to the Bayu Damai Health Clinic for further treatment.
“However, they were pronounced dead by medical officers at the clinic,” he said.
In a related development, Aldron said four other individuals – two men and two women – were also reported to have nearly drowned while swimming at beaches in separate incidents and locations.
He said all four were rescued by members of the public who noticed the incidents.
“All the victims were taken to health clinics for treatment, and there were no fatalities in those incidents,” he said.
