Blood trail, stench lead to discovery of decomposing body in Sandakan

KOTA KINABALU: A blood trail and a stench led to the discovery of a dead man whose body was already starting to decompose in a house in Sandakan on Sunday (Feb 2).

The victim was a 47-year-old local man who lived alone in a single-storey house at Sri Taman Batu 3½, Sandakan.

Sandakan acting OCPD Supt Ramasamy Kuppan said they received a call stating there were blood stains found on the floor of the house, which was locked from the inside.

There was also a terrible smell coming from inside the house, police were told.

He said the victim’s neighbour was the one who first noticed the blood stains and he had informed the victim’s siblings about it.

The siblings then lodged a police report, Supt Ramasamy said in a statement Sunday.

“Following the 11.30am report, our men were sent to investigate and, after breaking the door open, they found the deceased person in one of the rooms,” he said.

He said the body was taken to the hospital for a post mortem, and police have classified this case as sudden death as no foul play is suspected at this moment.
