GUA MUSANG: A couple died while their two children, a 5-year-old boy and a 10-month-old baby girl, were injured in an accident involving a car and a trailer at KM3 of Jalan Gua Musang - Kuala Krai on Saturday (Feb 1).
Gua Musang police district chief Supt Sik Choon Foo, said the incident, which occurred at about 1 am, killed Muhammad Syamie Farhan Adnan, 25, and his wife Nurul Syafika Anis Zulkifli, 26, reported Sinar Harian.
The driver of the trailer, a 45-year-old man, survived.
“The Gua Musang Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division received a report regarding the incident at 1.10am.
“Investigations at the scene found that the incident involved a trailer and a compact car,” he said in a statement on Saturday.
He said that initial investigations found that the car was driven by Muhammad Syamie Farhan. It was from Kuala Krai heading towards Gua Musang.
“Upon arriving at the scene of the incident, the car, which was rounding a bend to the right of the road, lost control and entered the opposite lane, colliding with the trailer involved.
“The accident also caused the trailer to skid and overturn while the car skidded on the left shoulder of the road,” he said.
He said that as a result of the accident, the car driver and his wife, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, were trapped in the vehicle before being extricated by personnel from the Gua Musang Fire Station.
“Both were confirmed dead at the scene of the accident while their two children were rushed to the Gua Musang Hospital for treatment,” he said.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving causing death.
“Investigations are still ongoing, and the police are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward to assist,” he said.
