JOHOR BARU: Johor will continue addressing long-standing issues affecting the Indian community through its dedicated taskforce, says Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
The Johor Mentri Besar said issues related to temple and land matters would be resolved with assistance from Kemelah assemblyman K. Raven Kumar, who also heads the state's task force for Indian community affairs.
“For Deepavali, we have allocated millions of ringgit for the statewide Jualan Kasih Johor sales initiative to offer subsidised food items and also to provide food baskets for those in need.
“We have also recently distributed the Bantuan Kasih Johor financial assistance to those who appealed after missing out on the previous phase," he said at the Bangsa Johor Deepavali celebration at Taman Tampoi Indah here on Sunday (Nov 1) night.
He added that the state government would continue its agenda of helping the people regardless of race and religion.
“Even though we achieved good results during the recent Johor State Election, we have to continue working and serving the rakyat,” he added.
Earlier, Onn Hafiz visited some of the booths at the annual Deepavali bazaar, which offered food, clothing and accessories for the festive season.
The month-long bazaar, which ends on Nov 7, was organised by Johor MIC in collaboration with the Johor Indian Petty Trade and Small Business Association and other non-governmental organisations for the 18th year running.
