MACC ready to investigate misconduct allegations against City Hall advisory board member

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is prepared to investigate if there are elements of corruption related to allegations of misconduct involving a Kuala Lumpur City Hall advisory board member over the awarding of a RM4mil project.

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said that, as of now, no investigation has been opened regarding the allegations.

“We are ready to investigate if City Hall’s internal probe finds elements of corruption or abuse of power,” he told Sinar Harian on Wednesday (Jan 29).

Earlier, media reports reported that City Hall had launched an internal investigation into the matter.

Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif reportedly said that City Hall was working closely with its Integrity Unit regarding the procurement of a RM4mil creative content production project, which was allegedly not awarded through an open tender.

Maimunah stated that she made the decision as the project’s cost was deemed too high and might not have adhered to the proper procurement process.

It was also revealed that CIty Hall is still gathering information and evidence before deciding on the next course of action, including the possibility of lodging a report with the MACC.

The misconduct allegations involving the advisory board member began circulating on social media on Tuesday (Jan 28).
