KUALA LUMPUR: The Road Transport Department (RTD) will conduct audits on express buses at depots and terminals nationwide as part of the "Pandu Cermat Selamat Sampai" campaign for the Chinese New Year celebrations next week.
Deputy director-general (planning & operations) Datuk Jazmanie Shafawi said the audit is to ensure that public transport vehicles are in good condition and safe for use during the Chinese New Year.
"The audit is one of five enforcement focuses this time. Other areas of focus include enforcement against nine major offences, special operations for goods vehicles and motorcycles," he said during a radio interview programme on Chinese New Year 2025: Pandu Cermat, Sampai Selamat, aired on Bernama Radio on Friday (Jan 24).
He added that 2,500 officers and personnel will be on duty during Chinese New Year to ensure smooth traffic flow and compliance with road regulations.
The campaign, which runs from Jan 20 to Feb 9, will also include a ban on goods vehicles on Jan 27 and 28, and Feb 1 and 2 to prevent traffic congestion due to an increase in road users during these periods.
"The ban aims to prevent traffic congestion when commercial and private vehicles mix on the road," Jazmanie explained.
He also advised road users to follow traffic rules and regulations and to be responsible drivers, especially during the festive season and school holidays.
Jazmanie stressed that the existing traffic regulations and laws are sufficient to ensure the safety of road users. - Bernama
