Extensive preparations being made for Asean meetings, says KL top cop


KUALA LUMPUR: More than 9,700 police officers and personnel will be deployed during 186 meetings to be held here and in Putrajaya in conjunction with Malaysia's chairmanship of Asean.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the meetings, which will involve local and foreign delegates, are scheduled for April, May, and October.

"Twenty-one of those meetings will be held in Putrajaya.

"We are playing an important part in ensuring safety and security.

"One of our primary focuses will be on traffic control, ensuring the proceedings run smoothly," he told a press conference after attending the city police monthly assembly here on Friday (Jan 24).

Comm Rusdi said city police will request additional personnel from Bukit Aman and other contingents should the need arise.

"We have made ample preparations as all eyes will be on the country.

"We will preserve the nation's positive image," he said.
