GOF foils bid to smuggle 2,000 cartons of cigarettes

KOTA BARU: The General Operations Force (GOF) South-East Brigade has foiled an attempt to smuggle over 2,000 cartons of cigarettes in Jalan Tanjong Kuala and Jalan Hulu Pasar, Tumpat.

Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said the seizure was carried out by a team from the GOF Battalion 8 during Ops Taring Wawasan Kelantan conducted from 11.30pm last Sunday until 1.15am yesterday.

He told Bernama his personnel came upon two suspicious-looking cars while patrolling the area.

“The two vehicles were found abandoned and unlocked by the roadside. More than 2,000 cartons of cigarettes were found inside the vehicles.

“The cigarettes are suspected to have been smuggled for distribution in the local market,” he said in a statement yesterday.
